Brand and marketing meets PR

Recently, I joined two of my brilliant collaborators from the Asian Communications Network — Az Ahmed of MGHL Marketing and Vardeep Edwards of The Branding Fox for a free webinar on how to build, grow, and amplify your business.

Between us, we covered a lot of ground in an hour.

Vardeep walked through why the strongest brands aren't always the loudest — and how getting your brand foundations right makes everything else easier. Pricing power, referrals, recognition. It all flows from knowing what you stand for and who you're for.

Az took us through the marketing fundamentals — getting your product market fit right, knowing your ideal customer, finding the right channels, and why consistency beats perfection every time.

And I covered PR — specifically, how small businesses and founder-led companies can get their stories into the press without a big agency budget. The difference between earned trust and paid attention. What journalists actually want. And why your good work will not speak for itself — you have to go and tell people about it.

The conversation that stayed with me most came from one of our attendees — a question about when to jump on a trending news story and when to step back. My honest answer: not everything deserves your voice. Pick your moments. Build relationships with journalists over time. It's a long game, and there will always be another opportunity.

The biggest takeaway from the three of us is this: brand, marketing, and PR are not separate disciplines. They reinforce each other. A strong brand gives you a better story to tell to connect to your customers. A clear marketing message helps you grow your business and gives you more stories to share with the press. And good press coverage reinforces your brand and builds the credibility that brings customers to your door.
